Vondrous Junior was recently using our iPad and tried playing Pac Man for the first time ever. The verdict came back a few minutes later: “This game isn’t so fun.”
And, really, it isn’t fun when you have to maneuver safely through the maze by tilting the iPad in the direction of travel—the controls were simply too unresponsive. But the game could have been fun were it played with an IT iPad Joystick.
The compact gaming accessory, designed by the vondrous people at Think Geek, sticks via suction cups to any touchscreen. Contrary to what its name suggests, the IT iPad Joystick works with any tablet (and even any smartphone, though screen space is the issue there) and not only an Apple iPad.
The key is that the app have button movement controls underneath the area covered by the joystick. So, the joystick won’t work with a game like, say, Plants vs. Zombies, which requires touching the entire screen. But it will work with most arcade-style games (particularly those published by Namco) including, of course, Pac Man. $25
