Age Your Own Whiskey Kit

The Woodinville Age Your Own Whiskey Kit is not a make your own whiskey kit. But your house guests needn’t be told of that distinction. To them—and perhaps to you too—the whiskey you’ll produce from this kit will seem like your creation.

The process is simple enough: Pour some of the un-aged whiskey into the wood barrel, which accelerates the aging process. Then wait three to six months (preferably six). Then pour and enjoy. The whiskey which started the process clear will end it a golden brown.

The $150 kit comes with two 750 ml bottles, a pouring funnel, two tasting glasses and the wood barrel that can be reused five times.

bacon chocolate peanut brittle

A drawing of Sir Francis Drake wearing a pig snout mask? There’s only one product for which that can be the logo: Sir Francis Bacon Chocolate Peanut Brittle. The peanut brittle has all the sophistication of the famed English vice admiral. The bacon adds all the absurdity of putting a pig snout on said vice admiral. Yet, for a surprisingly large number of people, that unusual combination is tasty. $20.50 for three 3-ounce boxes

Amazingly, this is not the only bacon-chocolate combo available on the market. VOSGES makes a Dark Chocolate Bacon Bar. The Chocomize, the cool design-your-own-chocolate website, allows customers to add either real or vegitarian bacon bits to white, dark or milk chocolate bar creations.

wasabi gumballs

Back in college we used to do shots of wasabi as a sort of dare. These days we don’t need a lubricated party to blow our sinuses with an overdose of Japanese horseradish. All we need is some wasabi gum—it offers that spicy kick to the nose in chewable form. Sadly, we don’t know of any sushi flavored gum but hold out hope of finding some.

Each meal contains perfectly measured prepped ingredients. The sauces have already been concocted. The vegetables have already been washed and chopped. The grains have already been pre-cooked. All you have to do is spend 15 minutes mixing and heating it all up.

salmon flavored vodka

Salmon: It isn’t just for eating anymore.

Flavored vodka is in. And not only with vanilla or fruit. Previously we sampled bacon-flavored vodka. In this post: salmon-infused vodka from Alaska Distillery. It’s brewed using glacier ice and, yes, real salmon. Drink a glass of this lox on the rocks and you get a fishy taste, nebulously described by most people who have tried it as “interesting.” Mixed into a Bloody Mary, however, this offering is a truly wonderful way to start out a lazy day.

slim chips

It’s like eating tasty air! That’s not your typical marketing slogan. But then Slim Chips, from the vondrous Icelandic designer Hafsteinn Juliusson, is not your typical food. There’s no pretense that these no-cal concept chips are the equivalent of the more fattening variety. Instead this “edible paper” is more a social statement on those who love to stuff their faces. Mint, blueberry, cheddar and wasabi flavors are envisioned.
